Ford Aims to Reduce Production Water Usage by 2015

Most people, even environmentalists, don't often consider how much water is used when making vehicles. Luckily, for those of us that do care, Ford is working on the issue. The truth is, a ton of water is used in all manufacturing processes, and the good news is, Ford has plans to decrease its per-vehicle water usage 30 percent by the year 2015, in addition to the company's already-accomplished decrease of 45 percent between 2000-2010 (and quite a bit more on a global level). That's 10.5 billion gallons of water (or 262 loads of laundry!) saved.
This is a huge step in the direction of a decreased carbon footprint for Ford, and we hope that other auto manufacturers, as well as technology manufacturers, will follow suit. This could even lead to such technologies as closed-loop water systems for manufacturers, which would allow them to use as little water as possible. As usual, Ford is leading the way in innovative thinking and new technologies, just like one can see on the new 2012 Ford models
