We love a good deal, and we’re sure you do too. What makes a good deal? Lower pricing than competitors, or a genuinely value-packed vehicle that the manufacturer sells at a fantastic price? The 2022 Ford Escape is an example of an SUV that doesn’t reinvent the wheel because the wheel doesn’t need any fixing. The 2022 Ford Escape takes the best parts of the 2021 model and expands upon them while leaving the fundamentals of the Escape experience intact.

Despite receiving a full redesign only two years ago, the 2022 Ford Escape is nowhere near slowing down. The exterior is already stylish enough for those who genuinely care about style, but Ford has added some new features to make your life on the road easier. Today we’ll be walking you through what you can expect with the latest Escape model, and you can use this information to see if the Escape is the right choice for you. Welcome to our 2022 Ford Escape Buyer’s Guide, and after you’ve read our guide, you can visit us at The Faricy Boys Ford––your go-to Ford Escape dealer––to see this SUV for yourself.

Trim Levels and Pricing

The 2022 Ford Escape retains the trim levels returning fans will remember and new fans will love. The four trim levels for the Ford Escape include the S, SE, SEL, and the feature-packed Titanium trim. The 2022 Ford Escape starts at an MSRP of $27,185.[a] We’ll dive deeper into the features momentarily. However, we can tell you now that the base Ford Escape is a monumentally good deal with the Ford Co-Pilot360 driver-assist suite, a performant and efficient powertrain, and multimedia features like an available 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Moving up the list of trims allows for a better powertrain, and the Escape also offers plenty of tech features like a more feature-rich infotainment center and additional driver-assist tech. Additionally, the interior lends itself to many luxurious amenities in the higher-tier trims, such as leather seating and a premium audio system, among other enhancements.

A Look Into Performance

The 2022 Ford Escape utilizes the same two powertrains seen in other recent Escape models. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which ensures the vehicle feels smooth to drive, and acceleration feels powerful. Both engines are turbocharged, meaning fantastic performance comes with greater fuel efficiency, regardless of operating with an FWD or AWD drivetrain. The base engine is a turbocharged 1.5L I-3, and when equipped inside the Escape, it outputs 181 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. The generous torque output allows the base Escape to tow a maximum of 2,000 lbs.

Unlike the other engine option––which we’ll shortly discuss––the turbocharged 1.5L I-3 engine can operate with an FWD drivetrain, but its AWD fuel efficiency ratings are still incredible. With the base engine, the 2022 Escape earns EPA-estimated ratings of 28 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway with FWD, while choosing the AWD drivetrain means slightly reduced ratings of 26 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway. What about the other option, you may be wondering?

The 2022 Ford Escape can include the familiar turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine that returning fans will remember. The upgraded engine means the Escape will output a robust 250 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. When compared to the base engine, the turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine outputs 38% more horsepower and 47% more torque, and towing capacity is raised by 75%, up to 3,500 lbs. As we mentioned, the upgraded powertrain only comes with AWD, but that doesn’t stop it from achieving excellent EPA-estimated ratings of 22 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway.

Standard and Optional Features

The 2022 Ford Escape offers drivers many features regardless of what trim they’ve purchased. However, you should consider the trim level you buy because it can affect some facets of the experience. For example, the base Escape comes standard with a six-way manually-adjustable cloth driver’s seat. However, drivers who invest in the following trim, the SE, will have the choice to replace the manually-adjustable seat with an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. That’s not all. The SEL comes standard with an eight-way power-adjustable chair wrapped in ActiveX upholstery, and Ford allows drivers to upgrade to a 10-way power-adjustable seat. The highest-tier trim, the Titanium, offers genuine leather and a six-way power-adjustable passenger seat, among many other enhancements.

Higher-end trims like the SEL offer more tech than the base trim. While a six-speaker audio system is standard on the SEL, this trim has an optional 10-speaker premium audio system designed by Bang & Olufsen, which enhances your music with clear audio and punchy bass levels. The SE trim doesn’t offer the premium audio system, but it does come standard with a SYNC 3 infotainment center. This has an eight-inch touchscreen and features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to add new functionality to your infotainment center.

As mentioned, the Ford Escape has many driver-assist features courtesy of the Ford Co-Pilot 360 suite. While over half a dozen features come standard, there are still a handful of additional features that you should consider adding to your purchase. Standard with the 2022 Ford Escape are features like Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking. Should your Escape sense a potential collision with another vehicle or pedestrian on the road, the SUV will warn you and automatically apply braking pressure to prevent the accident.

Also standard with the Ford Escape is a Blind-Spot Information System––a feature other manufacturers rarely include with base-level models. Some other features like Auto High-Beam Headlamps and a Rear View camera come standard, but optional features like Evasive Steering Assist and Active Park Assist 2.0 are worth considering. Evasive Steering Assist provides additional steering power if you need to quickly move around a vehicle or anything other obstruction on the road––but it does so intelligently, meaning it’s unlikely to cause an accident and more likely to prevent one. Active Park Assist 2.0 is incredible. With this feature, your Escape can parallel park with minimal input from the driver. By following the on-screen instructions, the annoyance of parallel parking gets left in the past.
