Ford Fathom™ in Cañon City — Price, Details, and Preorders

Ford has revealed the Fathom™, a midsize electric pickup starting at $28,350 MSRP and the first vehicle built on Ford’s new Universal EV Platform. Preorders open early 2027, and Faricy Ford of Cañon City is building the preorder list now.

Below: what Ford has confirmed, what it has not, where Colorado incentives land at this price, and an honest read on whether an electric truck works for how you actually drive in Fremont County. Straight numbers, as published by Ford:

• Starting MSRP: $28,350 with the standard-range battery
• Destination and delivery: $1,595, which is not included in MSRP
• Dealer documentation fees, taxes, title, and registration are additional

That puts a base Fathom just under $30,000 before tax and fees — and, importantly for Colorado buyers, under the $35,000 threshold that state EV incentives have used. More on that below.

What Ford Has Not Announced Yet

We are not going to invent numbers. As of now Ford has not published:

• EPA range for either battery, or battery capacity in kWh
• Towing capacity and payload
• Bed length and cab configuration
• Horsepower, torque, and drivetrain availability
• Charging speeds and the charge port standard
• Trim levels and option packages

Bidirectional Power in Fremont County

Bidirectional power means the truck can send electricity out, not just take it in — running tools on a job site, or powering parts of your house during an outage. If you have been through a winter storm or a wind event out here with the power down for a day, that is not a novelty feature.

Home backup requires additional equipment beyond the truck, and Ford has not yet published the Fathom’s output figures or which home integration hardware it supports. When it does, we will lay out exactly what a working setup costs.

An Honest Read on Range in Colorado

Ford has not published range yet, but the physics that will shape it are already known, and they are worth understanding before you order.

Cold weather costs range. Expect a real reduction in deep cold — batteries are less efficient below freezing and cabin heat draws power. Preconditioning while still plugged in recovers much of it, because you heat the cabin on wall power rather than battery. Plan on winter range well under whatever the EPA figure turns out to be.

Climbing costs you; descending gives it back. This is where an EV genuinely beats a gas truck in Colorado. Going up Monument Hill or over Monarch Pass uses a lot of energy, but regenerative braking recovers a real share on the way down — and you are not riding your brakes the whole descent. Round trips that go up and come back cost far less than the climb alone suggests.

Towing roughly halves range. True of every electric truck on the market. If you tow far and often, this is the honest thing to weigh before ordering. If you pull a small trailer a few times a year within 40 miles of home, it is a non-issue.

 

Charging in Cañon City

Home charging is the answer for most owners. A 240-volt Level 2 charger in the garage means you leave full every morning and public charging becomes irrelevant for daily driving. Cost depends on your panel and the run to where you park. We will help you work out what your house needs well before delivery.

Longer trips need planning. The I‑25 corridor through Pueblo and Colorado Springs is well covered. US‑50 west toward Salida is thinner — leave town with a healthy state of charge rather than counting on finding something along the way.

If you cannot charge where you park, tell us before you order. It does not rule out an EV, but it changes the math enough that we should talk it through.

Fathom vs. Maverick vs. Ranger

Three affordable Ford trucks, three different buyers. The Fathom is a midsize electric truck, so it sits between the compact Maverick and the Ranger on size, and below both on running cost.

Wait for the Fathom if you can charge at home, your daily miles are predictable, and you want the lowest cost per mile. Buy a Maverick now if you need a truck this year and want the lowest entry price. Buy a Ranger if you tow regularly or drive long unpredictable distances. And if you are hauling a loaded trailer over a pass every week, none of these three is the right answer — that is an F‑150 or a Super Duty conversation.
