  • Interior

One of the key selling features of this goliath of an SUV is the expansive and comfortable interior. The 2020 Ford Expedition sported great features, and the 2021 interior is continuing that streak with a fabulous amount of space and sleek design choices with room to improve on higher trim levels. The 2021 Ford Expedition takes the concept of the large family SUV and has designed it for the modern era, complete with comfortable upgrades such as large air vents for climate control in the front and expanded three-zone climate control for the rear sections of the vehicle.

Now your whole crew can be comfortable based on their needs and no more fighting over whether it is too warm or too cold. Some of the standard features impress us with a robust nine-speaker sound system strategically placed throughout the entire cab to provide balanced sound to everyone inside. There is also wide USB port usability and Bluetooth connectivity that comes standard to make connecting to your favorite devices easy and cord-free.

    Upgrade Trims: Upgrade Features

The standard trim of the Expedition is becoming a lot more accessible in 2021 with the new XL trim. This new standard entry provides seating for up to five and is a little more affordable out of the gate than the XLT. This improved affordability brings the Expedition back to basics a little bit with fewer premium features we come to expect, such as a smaller infotainment screen in the front dashboard.

Upper trim levels such as the XLT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum have expansive options for the interior. While optional on lower-level trims, standard high-level features include leather upholstery seating (which takes the interior from premium to luxury), chrome dashboard accents, panoramic sunroof, and heated/ventilated front seats. Specific features can be found as well, such as the King Ranch trim’s distinct black and brown leather aesthetic, which appeals to drivers with a unique style.

    Room for Everyone and Everything

The interior of the Expedition in 2021 is fantastic. With room for up to 8, a staggering 15 cupholders, optional features like dual-headrest rear-seat entertainment systems, and so much more, this SUV can really be customized to become a small RV for drivers with the right budget. Competitors will be stretched to keep up with the offerings presented by Ford with their newest generation of Expedition.

  • Engine

    The Power Behind the Expedition

The 2021 Ford Expedition is going to continue with the single engine option of previous years, but there are rumors of a potential diesel option being released. The 2021 Ford Expedition is powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine in the standard build. This engine is capable of getting up to 375 horsepower and around 470 lb-ft of torque, with even greater power pushing 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque on the Platinum trim. Supported by a 10-speed automatic transmission, this engine makes the Expedition a powerful workhorse with just a ton of capability. With all this muscle, the new 2021 model can tow almost 9,300 lbs.

The standard setup for the Expedition utilizes a rear-wheel drive system with optional all-wheel drive available. For difficult travel over troublesome terrain or inclement weather, the 2021 Ford Expedition has a terrain-response functionality that maximizes available traction on various surfaces to ensure that you aren’t sliding over the road. This is an important and considerate feature since the size and bulk of the vehicle could make such an incident catastrophic. Luckily the engineers with the blue oval have considered all possibilities.

  • Safety

When it comes to such large SUVs, their major selling feature is their room for passengers and cargo. While considering such a vehicle, it is natural to be curious about the safety features and security that will keep everyone inside safe. You need technology that protects everyone inside, and it's even better when new innovations in safety features actually help you prevent accidents from happening in the first place. Luckily the Ford Expedition has been thoroughly designed and vetted as an incredibly safe full-size SUV. The standard features include a remote start and lock/unlock on the key fob for convenience and security.

    Ford Co-Pilot360

Helming the safety features is the patented Ford Co-Pilot360 tech suite. This array of safety features includes a ton of driver aids, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and forward collision mitigation. This system detects objects in front of the vehicle and will alert you to take evasive action, and if you cannot respond fast enough, the Expedition will automatically apply emergency braking to slow your acceleration.

The Ford Expedition also comes equipped with blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts to give you eyes in the back of your head. This feature performs a fantastic combo with the lane-keeping assistance, which can detect if you are drifting out of your lane on the road and provides the driver with an alert to correct their maneuvering. Other standard features include automatic high beams and, as is standard in most modern vehicles, a rear-view camera that is incredibly helpful when backing up such a large vehicle. Additional options are also available such as adaptive cruise control, which lets you set a distance to follow traffic and automatically adjusts your speed to match the driver in front of you. A particularly helpful tool when stuck in slow-moving traffic.

    Ford MyKey

Another spectacular Ford feature available across the entire 2021 Expedition range is Ford MyKey. For drivers who occasionally have their teens or friends and family that drive their Expedition, this brings an incredible amount of peace of mind. This blue oval tech allows owners to control certain features of the vehicle when other drivers are using the car. Features such as maximum audio system volume, seatbelt use, and top speed are now under your control even when you're not the one behind the wheel.
