Families love it because it’s highly configurable, extremely comfortable, and comes packed with impressive standard features. This is one of the most popular vehicles on our lot, and we regularly welcome drivers who want to check out the newest of its kind. The Ford Expedition is such an impressive model because it has capabilities that rival those of a truck while providing the interior seating and comfort of an SUV. The power of this 2024 iteration is no joke, either, as it can tow up to 9,200 lbs, which is more than some light-duty pickup trucks! This towing power in particular is why we recommend the 2024 Expedition to adventurous families who like to explore the open road with a camper behind them or with thrill-ready toys like ATVs or snowmobiles. If you need to transport a lot of people and a large vessel—like a trailer, camper, or boat—the Expedition has you covered.
This towing strength wouldn't be possible without the standard ten-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. If you’ll be utilizing the Expedition as a hauler, you’ll appreciate having such a high-caliber transmission since it allows you to take lots of small steps when shifting gears, which is especially useful if going up or downhill when towing. As for engine options, you can choose between the 3.5L EcoBoost Turbo V6 or the 3.5L High-Output EcoBoost Turbo V6; opt for the latter if you want more horsepower and torque, or pick the former if you’re determined to get better fuel economy ratings.
The 2024 Expedition is ready to tackle all sorts of environments, thanks to the available intelligent four-wheel drive and seven available drive modes. These modes are Normal (for running errands around town), Eco (for savvier fuel conservation), Sport (for more exhilarating handling), Tow/Haul (for better command when trailering), Grass/Gravel/Snow (for slippery terrain), Sand (for loose terrain), and Mud/Ruts (for the optimal control when getting out of sticky situations). Seamlessly switch between these modes as your adventures take you to new and unknown places.
In addition to the Mud/Ruts mode of the 2024 Expedition, there’s also an available Control Trac four-wheel drive system that’s specifically made for getting you out of sticky situations. This is ideal for those who use their Expedition in off-road environments, as it can lock the rear axle to boost traction in mud or help propel your vehicle out of a rut. The Control Trac system makes the 2024 Expedition fit to compete against the best off-road-tailored vehicles—all while hauling a household.
We are thrilled with the new and exciting technology that Ford continues to bring to the table every year. The Blue Oval is a trendsetter in the vehicle tech arena, and the 2024 Expedition is an excellent example of that, with systems and tools that improve trailering, help drivers be safer on the road, and simply make road trips more enjoyable.
Let’s start with the stand-out feature from the Ford lineup this year: the BlueCruise Active Driving Assistance System. Consumer Reports has called it the best system of its kind—and for good reason. This hands-free driving system can take over steering, braking, and accelerating on hundreds of thousands of compatible roads across the continent. One of its most talked-about features is the driver alert monitor, which uses a camera to monitor the driver’s eye movements; if it detects you take your eyes off the road, it will alert you to return your gaze to the road. Many people also like the system because, unlike its competitors, it works both on and off highways. (Many similar systems only work on highways and freeways.)
Those who plan on using their Expedition to tow will love the available Pro Trailer Backup Assist. With cameras and guidelines, it predictively directs you when backing up and aligning your trailer with your hitch. This system also has brake control and sway control to help you better command the vessel that you’re towing.
The tech doesn’t stop at safety and towing. In the cabin, you’ll find excellent infotainment features. The 2024 Ford Expedition gets the SYNC 4 with an available 15.5-inch tablet-like touchscreen, connected navigation, and voice recognition. Having the connected navigation means that you don’t have to depend on phone service or Wi-Fi to use a navigation app. Meanwhile, voice recognition lets you do things like ask for directions and make calls without taking your hands off the wheel.
Parents of young kids will appreciate the available rear seat entertainment system, featuring display screens on the backs of the driver and front passenger seats. These give rear-row viewers access to over one million TV episodes and movies and are ideal for keeping little ones preoccupied on long trips. As for those who’d like to stick to their smartphones to pass the time, there are USB ports and an available wireless charging pad.
The Expedition is a highly versatile model because it can be configured to seat five, seven, or eight passengers—so, whether you have a small family or a large one, you can get an Expedition that'll fit your crew.
You’ll find a plethora of features in the cabin that boost comfort and relaxation on long drives. For starters, there are 15 beverage holders, giving every passenger the freedom to bring more than one refreshment along for the ride—like a water bottle and the soda cup from your first rest area visit. There is also a cargo management system that comes standard, so you can create structured and organized compartments in the cargo area for fragile items.
The cargo capabilities continue with a second-row bench boasting a 40/20/40 split function. This bench also folds flat and reclines, so you can orient it in a number of ways to manifest the room you need for larger cargo. Alternatively, you can opt for second-row captain’s chairs that slide forward; these make for a super spacious second row and make it easy for third-row passengers to access their seats.
The driver will also be comfortable thanks to a standard eight-way power driver's seat that can tilt and recline; there’s also an available ten-way power driver’s seat with a memory function on upper trims. Meanwhile, with standard front seating, even the front seat passenger gets a four-way manual seat; in the uppermost trims, this co-pilot can get an eight-way power seat.
Thanks to available heated and ventilated front seats, as well as available second-row heated seats, everybody can get cozy in the Expedition. Add to that the tri-zone electronic automatic temperature control, and there shouldn’t be too many climate-related arguments in the cabin. The 2024 Expedition’s cabin is highly configurable, bedecked with comfort tech, and packed with convenience features. Every passenger—from the front to the back—will love riding in this full-size SUV.
