Maybe you’re new in town, or perhaps you’ve been a Pueblo native your entire life. Regardless of what walks of life we all come from, there’s something for everybody at The Faricy Boys Ford; your go-to Pueblo used car dealer. We’ve come up with a list of the five best pre-owned vehicles for Pueblo drivers, and in this list, you’ll find all sorts of vehicles from a variety of manufacturers. Because at The Faricy Boys, our used lot is full of noteworthy models from your favorite brands such as Ford, Jeep, Toyota, Honda, and many more. These five vehicles have been selected because we feel they give Pueblo drivers style, performance, and efficiency, all on a budget. Let’s get started with the top five used vehicles for Pueblo drivers.

#1 Ford Escape

Topping off our list is the Ford Escape. The Ford Escape is one of Ford’s older SUVs on the market today, only being preceded by the Explorer, Expedition, and the Bronco, albeit the Bronco saw a lengthy hiatus before being reintroduced into the market in 2020. That same year, the Ford Escape saw a refresh with the 2020 model year, which was far from a small update: it changed how the Escape performs and the features that come standard with every trim. But how do these changes look in real-world performance?

Ford Escape models before 2020 have the advantage of costing less than their newer peers, which goes without saying. Cargo space is an interesting one because Escape models designed before the refresh offer up 68 cu-ft of space, as opposed to the 65.4 cu-ft you get with models produced in 2020 onwards. As for the performance, you’re not losing too much by purchasing an older model. Standard with Escape models between 2013 and 2019 is a 2.5L I-4 paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. These models create 168 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque, which will be more than enough power for getting around Pueblo and the neighboring towns, both on and off-road. Models as far back as 2013 can also be fitted with a turbocharged I-4 engine that significantly boosts performance. The turbocharged 2.0L I-4 put inside of the 2013 Escape creates 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque.

#2 Ford Fusion

The Ford Fusion is a different kind of recommendation. What do we mean by that? For starters, there are no new Fusion vehicles to purchase: all of them are pre-owned. “But wait, they must be horrible vehicles if they’re discontinued, right?” you may be asking. The Fusion wasn’t discontinued because of lack of sales, quite the opposite. According to Forbes, Ford managed to ship over 300,000 Fusion vehicles in 2014. So there’s no doubt these vehicles were, and still are, popular. Why purchase a Fusion for yourself? The answer is simple: affordability, capability, and fuel efficiency. And, if you’re going to be driving around Pueblo, why not do it in style?

Considering the 2020 Fusion was the last of its kind released, this seems like a fair place to start. Tech is aplenty with the help of an available 8-inch infotainment center, and you can expect features to come standard such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the Ford Co-Pilot 360 safety suite. Both the 2019 and 2020 Fusion models perform identically in that they both come with 2.5L I-4 engines producing 173 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque. This same kind of engine can be found on older models, such as the 2013 through 2018 Fusion model years, and there they produce 175 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. These same models also offer a turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine instead, producing a much higher 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. And again, that same turbocharged engine can be found on the 2019 and 2020 models too, but with a slight performance bump to 245 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque.

#3 Toyota Corolla

Toyota is one of the most recognizable brands in the automotive industry. For dozens of decades, the venerable vehicle manufacturer has operated out of Japan, and many of its vehicles have been influential on a global scale. One of Toyota’s most revered vehicles is the Corolla: a vehicle that blends style and substance into one sedan that you shouldn’t miss, especially if you’re shopping on the used market. The Corolla, in particular, has a very long history in the automotive market, both internationally and here in the United States, with the first Corolla rolling onto American roads back in 1968.

When shopping for a used Corolla, we recommend purchasing one from 2012 onwards. This is because each sequential model release was either part of the eleventh or twelfth generation, the latter of which is the most current. With this in mind, if you want to save the most money, we recommend looking into a Corolla such as the 2013 model.

The 2013 through 2019 Corollas came standard with the same 1.8L I-4 engine paired with either a manual or automatic transmission, and the output is 132 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque. What we feel is the main advantage with the Corolla is fuel efficiency, which we see here with the 2013 model and its EPA-estimated ratings of 27 mpg (miles per gallon) in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. So, let’s say you need to drive up to Denver; you can rely on your Corolla to continuously save you money during your trip with fewer gas station visits. It’s worth noting, however, that if you want to take part in more advanced features such as Apple CarPlay, you’ll want to go with the 2020 model, and more surprisingly, Android Auto wasn’t made standard until a year later with the 2021 Corolla.

A silver 2021 Jeep Renegade Limited is shown parked on a city street.

#4 Jeep Renegade

The Jeep Renegade is a special vehicle because it can’t be recommended to everyone. However, if you’re looking for a pre-owned vehicle that can also endure Colorado’s trails and you don’t mind a fair share of adventuring, then the Jeep Renegade is the vehicle for you. Let’s be honest: if you’re willing to do some traveling, then you likely know that conquering trails at places like the Colorado State Forest is no easy feat, and you’re going to want a vehicle that will handle the unpredictability so common with off-roading.

With this in mind, the Jeep Renegade can offer you a variety of off-roading tech, most notably are 4Hi and 4Lo systems. These 4×4 systems are essential to successfully traversing through hard terrains such as mud, sand, dirt, and much more. Many Renegades, such as the 2020 model, offer Selec-Terrain systems to allow the driver to instantly switch between the included traction modes to accommodate the type of surface they’re driving on. As for performance, Jeep Renegade models released between 2015 and 2021 offer a 2.4L I-4 engine that produces 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. On the older models, such as the 2015 Renegade, this engine is the secondary option, whereas it’s standard on the newer models until the 2022 Renegade swapped it and replaced both engines with a turbocharged 1.3L I-4.

#5 Honda Civic

When it comes to sheer reliability, cost-efficiency, and general aesthetic, it’s difficult not to recommend the Honda Civic. The Civic needs no real introduction, and if you have any history with the manufacturer, you likely know how popular the Civic is. If you haven’t experienced a Honda vehicle before, all you need to know is that vehicles such as the Civic encapsulate everything we appreciate about the automotive industry: a decent price, a wide range of performance options, and modern tech. Although the latest Civic model embarked with the 2022 model, this doesn’t mean you should pass on the preceding generation, which lasted between the 2015 and 2021 model years.

Starting with the 2021 model, while it may be slightly closer in cost to the latest Civic, you can expect a host of standard safety features thanks to Honda Sensing, which had been added the year prior. You can also expect excellent performance from an optional turbocharged 1.5L I-4 engine which creates 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque.

Alternatively, models such as the Civic Type R offer tremendous performance from the available turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine, which produces 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Best of all, even with this engine, the Civic can retain incredible fuel efficiency ratings of 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. What we also consider important is that you can find features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as far back as 2016, which can’t be said for some other vehicles on this list. Overall, the Civic is one of the five vehicles we recommend to Pueblo drivers, and each one will give drivers what they’re looking for given their needs and interests, and you’ll find them here at The Faricy Boys.
